POST MOTERM

Neillie

Chica con rulos – Neillie; Anonymo; 2 3/4 x 3 1/4 “, Daguerrotipo;. Circa 1844.

Mis lagrimas corren rapido, no puedo escribir mas.

Girl with Ring CurlFullSizeRenders — Neillie; Anonymous; 2 3/4 x 3 1/4″, Daguerreotype; circa 1844. The curls of hair on this young girl, who is highlighted against the dark bedding and background, gives this image a painterly, folk-art quality. Many folk painters and miniature painters became photographers. They brought with them their sensibilities, so it is no wonder many early photographs have a folk painterly quality. Itinerants and photographers in small communities modeled their poses after the popular folk styles the people were used to. City galleries used more academic painterly conventions. Accompanying the daguerreotype is a letter written by the young girl’s aunt.
